Our Story
From Pattern-Making to Leather Craft
Design logic × the bloom of waxed leather — these two threads run through every hykc piece.

From Fashion Design to a Love of Leather
Founder Kenji studied fashion design in the UK, and returned to Hong Kong to work as a fashion designer. He has always loved the satisfaction of building something from nothing, start to finish — and that satisfaction keeps pushing him to refine his craft.
During a creative project, Kenji encountered leather and found the material remarkable — it seems to grow and evolve over time, always ageing well rather than wearing out. That fascination led him to leathercraft, and to founding hykc Leatherware: a brand that satisfies his creative drive, pushes him to keep improving, and can also sustain a livelihood.

Design Philosophy
Pattern-Making Logic, Brought Into Leather
The rigorous pattern-making logic of a fashion design background is hykc's core design language. Every line, fold, and structure is refined through repeated pattern trials before it's finalised — sculptural cutting, structural aesthetics, and a deliberate rejection of unnecessary hardware.
The Monolith is the emblem of this philosophy: made from a single piece of leather, deliberately minimising conventional stitching so the finished piece reads as one continuous structure, rather than something assembled from parts.
The Life of Leather
Waxed Leather That “Blooms” With Use
hykc chooses Italian waxed leather precisely because it seems to grow and change over time. With regular use, the leather gradually develops a deep, rich patina — creases and wear aren't flaws, but a mark that becomes uniquely the owner's own.
Every hykc piece is meant to live and change alongside its owner — the moment you take it home is only the beginning; the longer you use it, the more its true character comes through.
Gifting & Customisation
More Than a Gift — A Personal Touch
Most hykc customers buy as gifts, and many add on our Monogram engraving service to turn a piece into something truly one-of-a-kind. Whether it's a name, a short phrase, or a special symbol, just let us know in your order notes or get in touch to arrange it.
Brand Vision
We hope every visitor feels the way Kenji did when he first opened shop — discovering plenty of interesting pieces here; and after buying, feels it was money well spent, worth recommending to a friend.
Finished leather goods will always be hykc's core focus, but in the long run, Kenji hopes the brand can gradually grow beyond leather alone — workshops and leather repair services remain a side income for now, not the brand's primary direction.
